About the ArtistAbout Me:
Hi, I am Michelle Thaxton. I'm an artist, teacher, mother and wife. Each one of those roles are a gift that I cherish. I have loved making art my whole life. Even as a child, I took pride in using my hands to create. I always thought of it as playful exploration. There isn't one particular medium that is my favorite, I really like them all. Whether it's drawing, painting, pottery, photography or about anything else creative, I put my whole heart into it. Traveling all over the world has given me a different perspective on art. Every culture expresses beauty differently. I love things that are different. I see the world as a palette that needs to be explored and decorated with uniqueness. I can't imagine a world without art. It is like breathing, I don’t think I could live without it. I believe that God has blessed me with the ability to express myself visually and has called me to motivate others do the same. I enjoy teaching high school art. I encourage my students to tap into their creative self through experimentation. I like to provide the materials, give examples, plenty of encouragement and then celebrate when their imagination produces a product. Not everyone is an artist. Not everything we make is successful. My hope is that I can change the mindset that art is only for the talented. I think my role is to open a door and invite people to enter it with me, without hesitation and worry about what others think. Hopefully they will let down their guard, become creatively vulnerable, and find a joy that satisfies their soul. |
